Planning your long-awaited holiday/ weekend away?
Security Checklist:
1. Inform your security company of your holiday plans
2. Inform your neighbourhood watch that you will be away
3. Leave a set of keys with a trusted neighbour / relative, in case of emergencies. 4. Provide your security company with the contact numbers of the relevant key holders. 5. Inform your trusted neighbours of your holiday plans so that they can keep an eye on your property. 6. Suspend all newspaper deliveries or ask a friend or neighbour to collect your post (a bulging post box is a giveaway that you are not home) 7. Ensure that your pets are taken care of. 8. Ensure that all major electrical appliances are switched off or disconnected from main power supply
9. In the event of hiring a house-sitter, teach them to use you alarm correctly
10. Double check that you have locked and secured all windows and doors before leaving home.11. All your outside locks should be a minimum of four-lever locks or double cylinder security locks
12. Security gates fitted on outer doors is a highly effective security measure
13. Sliding doors can be secured simply by placing a piece of timber (cut to size) in the sliding rail
14. Ensure that sliding doors cannot be lifted vertically
15. Full fencing and sturdy gates are a good deterrent
16. Have good exterior lighting, preferably on a timer.17. Have clear signage indicating that you have security.
